Shell International Petroleum Co. appointed Harkess-Ord to design and engineer the new Shell Retail main identity sign (Monolith), canopy fascias and forecourt furniture as part of its worldwide re-imaging program across 43,000 sites.

From an existing design which was being manufactured and supplied via the traditional signage industry, Harkess-Ord introduced a radically enhanced concept for the Monolith. Through extensive value engineering and our alternative supply chain, we identified a unique manufacturing process using industrial waste pipe technology which would reduce cost, while improving sustainability and quality. Our approach to the program and the solutions we delivered, resulted in a 50% saving over the previous Monolith. These efficiencies translated into a multi million pound saving from this item alone across Shell’s European network.
